On September 26, 2025, Naomi Riess announced her campaign for Colorado House District 59, running as the Republican challenger to first-term incumbent Katie Stewart. In the Durango Herald’s report, Riess described herself as a moderate Republican focused on giving rural Southwest Colorado a stronger voice in Denver.

Riess’s platform centers on cutting red tape to bring down housing costs, protecting the region’s water resources, and keeping healthcare and small businesses viable in rural communities. The Herald noted her three-plus decades in La Plata County, where she has served on school Parent Teacher Organizations, worked as a 4-H leader, and spent 13 years as vice chair of the La Plata County Historic Preservation Review Commission.
